Small Carpathians
Small Carpathians, together with the Austrian Hainburger Berge (Hainburg hills) belong to a Fatra-Tatra region. It is located in the western part of Slovakia and the central mountain range is about 100 km long with its highest peak "Záruby" (768 m), which is located directly in our hunting area. Small Carpathians begin in Bratislava and they extend to Nové Mesto nad Váhom. In 1976 they were declared to be "protected landscape area" (64,610 ha).
Climate
Flora and fauna
This region is characteristic for mostly deciduous forests at lower elevations dominated by oak, especially hairy oak (Quercus pubescens) at higher altitudes completely dominated by beech (Fagus sylvatica) and sometimes the debris ash-maple forests can be found. This region is a place of many rare and protected plant and animal species.
